I have the original seat frame, batting and fabric, but do I need straps or a board or something to support the actual seat itself?

NO ITS PRETTY EASY… WE DID IT RIGHT OVER FOAM, I THINK YOU ALSO NED SOME FU FU WHITE FABRIC TO HELP THE FABRIC LOOK EVEN OVER THE FOAM.

I’ve done both the straps and the plywood to support it. I’ve found that the straps don’t hold as long as a piece of plywood. I measure the opening onto the ply, cut a piece using the table saw, (but a skil saw or jig saw will work fine). Then batting or foam wrapped in muslin – a very inexpensive fabric that goes under the finish fabric. Finally the finish fabric is stretched over the whole thing and tacked to either the underside of the board, which is then held in place from underneath the chair frame, or the fabric is attached to the sides of the seat frame and covered with a braid, bric-brac, or strip of bias or other finished piece of the fabric.
