Someone sat in one and left the stain from there jeans. My question is does anyone know the steps to upholstering with durable clear color plastic. I would like to achieve as close as possible a professional look. I understand that I will need a heating gun. Why?

I don’t know about upholstering, but why don’t you try just cleaning the seat cushion and getting (or making) some chair covers? They look really classy, and you can change them to give your dining set a little face lift when you get tired of one type.
Most dining chairs that are cushioned are called drop in seats and are held to the chair usually by a few screws through some cleats on the inside of the chair rails. To know if this is what you have, turn the chair over and see if you see screw heads. If so, you can remove the screws and the seats should pop out easily. Then from under the seat you will see staples holding on the fabric. You can either remove the fabric that is there and reupholster with new or just put the new over the old. Since you want to use clear plastic, just put the plastic over the existing fabric and staple with an Arrow type staple gun. Reinstall the seats and you are done. To staple start in the middle of each section and work towards the edges removing wrinkles as you go. The one thing you have to worry about is fit. If the seats already fit tight, then adding the clear cover may add enough thickness to prevent reinserting the seats back into the chair rails. You will have to assess when you are removing the seat if it is loose enough to put back in when you are done. Since all of the work you will be doing is on the back where it doesn’t show, you really shouldn’t be afraid to try this. It is easy as long as you are patient and work to remove the wrinkles.
If the chair seat is not a drop in type then I can’t help you.
Please don’t use plastic; it’ll ruin the whole look. Instead go to a fabric store and buy a cheap remnant of a fabric you love. I change the look of my chairs once or twice a year this way. It looks so much better than plastic and you can change it according to the season.
