Best answer about i have a mahogany antique buffet – what colors work with it for a dining table and chairs? Solid beech?
Answer by ICHOOSETOTELLTHETRUTH
Cream color but than you would have to sand , prime 2 times, sand again and paint finish coat 2 times.
If you wish to keep it Red Mahogany since its antique you can refinish by just getting Red Mahogany ( min-wax ) it already has varnish ( poly ) in it and wet sand it with the stain going with the wood grain let set 2 or 3 day and its back to new.*
120 grit sand paper.

First of all, NEVER refinish an antique piece until you’ve had it appraised. Taking off the original finish can greatly reduce it’s value!
As for matching wood tones, it would depend on how formal you want your room to look. Are you considering modern pieces to set off your antique buffet? I personally like the look of mixed woods in a room, it adds interest. So you could go with almost any wood, beech would be nice, and tie your look together with fabric and color. Table runner on the table with a smaller version on the buffet for instance. If you are shopping for a nice dining room table, some of the nicer furniture places will let you take a chair home and set it next to the buffet for a few days to see how you like it (they may require a refundable deposit). Then you can return it and buy your set somewhere more affordable if you like.
